For What It's Worth/Unemployment Benefits Argument
You know that argument that the "republicans" (GOP) make about how unemployment benefits are an incentive for people NOT to aggressively look for work? I kind of agree butt not for the same reasons. It's a misleading argument in that the wages we are paid aren't up to realistic standards. If the unemployment check is barely any less than your real pay check and you get to sit in the AC all day, watch TV and take a break from the work-a-day-world why wouldn't you take advantage of your right that you already paid into? The problem is that wages have been stagnant for decades and haven't kept up with the price of living even though worker productivity has increased nearly every single quarter since. There is a mentality among some of the "elite" that focuses on getting the most bang for their buck and will legally pay you as little as possible while simultaneously getting you to do more work. If business owners routinely shared the wealth of productivity increases and actually paid human beings what they are worth we not only would have ourselves a robust economy butt some unemployed people might be incentivized to rejoin the workforce in earnest not to mention there would probably more human decency in the world.
